EU Social Situation Monitor (formerly European Observatory on the Social Situation)
Background
The project analyses trends in income distribution, poverty, social exclusion and material deprivation, as well as health, across the European Union, the position of different groups in society in these regards, and the social welfare systems in place in different Member States for tackling problems of inequality and deprivation.
The project is directed by Applica in Brussels and includes the European Centre for Social Welfare Policy and Research in Vienna, Tárki in Budapest, ISER and Athens University of Economics and Business in Greece.
Description and methods
The Social Situation Monitor carries out policy-relevant analysis and research on the current EU socio-economic situation on the basis of the most recent available data. Each year it examines major issues which are features of the situation or affect it with the aim of providing evidence on which to base policy-making across the EU.
