Record Type BLIFEMST

This Record contains information about employment status spells in the period since the respondent
first left full time education. There is one record for each spell reported in answer to questions L50,
L51 and L52. The record contains end date for each spell except the final spell which should be
recorded as not ended. The start date for each spell and the spell length in months are included as
derived variables.

While data collected here may have been compared with the single year job history information to
resolve internal ambiguities, there has been no attempt to enforce consistency between data collected
here and that contained in the records AJOBHIST, BJOBHIST etc.

Season codes were used when the respondent could not remember exact month. In the calculation
of spell length it was assumed, by convention, that winter would be coded as January, spring as April,
summer as July and Autumn as October.

The results contained in the following tables are obtained from unweighted data. See Volume A for
a full discussion on weighting.
