Abstract:

We conducted a short online survey with Understanding Society respondents who had left the UK to examine their life after leaving the UK. The survey was suspended after 10 quarters as it failed to reach the minimum sample sizes that was needed to make it a viable data resource. A key lesson from this exercise was the importance of collecting contact information, such as valid email addresses and mobile phone numbers, prior to them moving from the country. The data collected from the small sample of emigrants suggested that, contrary to our expectations, emigrants were more likely to be UK born individuals of White ethnicity.
