Summary:

The aim of this presentation is to explore the mechanisms individuals and families use to accommodate labour market shocks. The focus is on panel data models of life-cycle family labour supply, time use, and self-insurance. The research is motivated by two key features of the labour market: falling real earnings for low skilled, especially men, and growing earnings inequality. It will look at implications for labour supply and time use allocations within families and will also examine the impact of deteriorating economic outcomes for young adults on family living arrangements.
