Abstract:
This book was originally produced in response to the government's 1994 White Paper, 'Realising our Potential', which recommended that all graduates wishing to study for doctorates should first take a one-year Masters course in Research Methods. It aims to provide a set of notes for guidance on most aspects of research likely to be encountered by PG students. The 42 chapters cover some entirely generic issues - managing a PhD, word processing, using the internet, library and information services, career opportunities - and some more specific - research types, issues of measurement, issues of analysis, mathematical tools, etc.
