Abstract:
In the light of current discussion about 'work-life balance' this research will explore the effect of becoming a father on men's employment. Existing longitudinal datasets will be used to examine: how fathers' patterns of employment differ to those of non-fathers; the extent to which fathers are a homogeneous category in terms of employment; the influence of the transition to fatherhood on patterns of employment; and, additionally, whether current views about fathering involvement match with fathering practices.
