Abstract:

What explains the decline in traditional religious observance in Britain, and is it being replaced by alternative or 'secular' religions? New research shows that the decline in observance extends across all religions, including Islam, and that we do not necessarily become more religious as we get older. It also throws up a challenge to all organised religions, as Robert Pigott explains.
