Abstract:
This analysis provides information on the employment and household circumstances of homeworkers in Britain in 1991. The extent of homeworking in Britain is reported with those working 'at home' being distinguished from those working 'from home'. For the purposes of this report it is the former group which are of central interest throughout. Some definitional problems when estimating the extent of homeworking are discussed in Section 1 of the report. The range of characteristics of homeworkers ie gender, age, educational qualifications, marital status, health, income level and household composition are compared with others in employment. The homeworkers identified in the BHPS sample are classified by occupation and industry and their conditions of employment described.
