Summary:

It highlights key research evidence and recommendations from our Full Report about the identification and categorisation of fathers in major UK datasets. We investigated how sixteen large-scale repeated cross-sectional and longitudinal studies identify, differentiate and collect data about British fathers. In this document we briefly report what we found; explain why it matters; highlight relevant questions and fieldwork practice; and make recommendations as to how the data about fathers might be improved for the future
