Summary:

The article reflects on the evolution of tax and benefit policy in Latvia in context of high levels of income inequality and poverty there. It informs that the benefit system in Latvia is beneficial to wealthy households but provides fewer benefits to needy people at the same time. According to tax experts, conservative tax policies in the country have created a burden on employment income in Latvia.
