Summary:

Findings from part of the ESRC's Youth, Citizenship and Social Change research programme and based on a national study which examined how some young people are able to overcome family disadvantage. It explores the importance of young people's parental experiences, their attitudes and aspirations and how positive family relations and personal motivation can help to counterbalance disadvantaged circumstances. Includes sections on teenagers at risk, psychological well-being, agency and risk behaivours.
