ISER will host an international workshop on Health and Skills Formation on 4 December, organized by Professor Sonia Bhalotra and funded by a Newton Fund award from the ESRC.
The workshop is also supported by the ESRC Research Centre on Micro-Social Change, an ESRC Research Centre at ISER.
A recent literature in economics, psychology and medicine suggests that health and non-cognitive skills (i.e. personality traits like confidence, willingness to take risk etc) in early life are an important ingredient to the creation of cognitive skills, and are predictive of employment and earnings.
The papers in this workshop investigate the causal mechanisms involved in creating health capital and in the formation of skills from health capital.
The Program and Abstracts is available to download.
The workshop will run from 9.30 am to 6.30 pm.
Speakers are economics professors from the UK and Europe.
The workshop will be of interest to academic staff and students in Economics, Psychology, Public Health and Medicine.
It is free to attend but potential attendees should email Janice Webb by 30th November if they plan to attend so we can modify the catering for lunch.
