New research showing a trend towards lower housing mobility, more instability and lower quality housing for many people, will be discussed at an event How Can We Design Better Homes and Neighbourhoods? at the Royal Institute of British Architects in London on 10 December, 4-7pm.
The research, using data from ISER’s world-leading study of UK households, Understanding Society, will be presented by Dr Paul Sissons from the Centre for Business in Society, Coventry University and discussed by a panel of experts including
- Terrie Alafat, Chief Executive, Chartered Institute of Housing
- Matt Bell, Group Head of External Affairs, Berkeley Group
- Shane Brownie, Head of Research and Analysis, National Housing Federation
- Stephen Howlett, Chief Executive, Peabody Housing Trust
This event is aimed at housing providers, house builders, policy makers, local authorities, mortgage providers, charities and campaigners. Delegates will have the opportunity to hear the panel debate the changing landscape of the housing market, discuss key policy goals for its future, and reflect on the latest evidence from Understanding Society.
The research is published as part of the annual Insights report, collating some of the most policy-relevant recent research using Understanding Society, the prestigious panel study established by the Economic and Social Research Council in 2009 as a successor to the British Household Panel Survey. The study collects social, economic and health data from around 100,000 individuals across the UK.
