With over 100 users across academia, government, the devolved assemblies, and the third sector, UKMOD is the pre-eminent tax-benefit microsimulation model for the UK and its constituent nations, made available to the public open-source and free of charge. UKMOD permits analysis of the effects of taxes and social benefits on household incomes and work incentives for the population of each nation in the UK, as well as user-defined individual profiles. It is unique as it features great flexibility in the scope of its simulations and ensures cross-country consistency of the modelling approach and comparability of the results with the EU models which were also developed at ISER.
We are pleased to announce a new public release of the UKMOD tax-benefit model:
UKMOD B2024.21 released – Centre for Microsimulation and Policy Analysis.
We have also updated UKMOD Explore, the online version of UKMOD, which now features a larger number of policy parameters (including indirect tax parameters), and improved documentation. Models are now available for the 2025 policy system for the UK as a whole, its four constituent nations (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland), and London:
