Survey Methods Mini-Conference online this September

The survey methods mini-conference is a four day, online conference curated by the Understanding Society survey methods team. Each day of the conference focuses on a particular theme. The mini-conference is free to attend, but advance registration is required. You can attend on just one day, or come for the whole conference.

There are four afternoons of sessions.

Tuesday 27 Sept: Day 1 covers Maximising Survey Response

14.00 – 14.05: Welcome and introductions by the Chair, Professor Peter Lynn (Understanding Society, University of Essex)

14.05 – 14.50: Keynote speaker: Professor Katherine McGonagle (The Institute for Social Research, Panel Study of Income Dynamics, University of Michigan, US).

Strategies to engage respondents and improve participation in the U.S Panel Study of Income Dynamics.

14.50 – 15.00: Break

15.00 – 15.25: Response maximisation strategies in Understanding Society: evidence from experiments, Dr Pablo Cabrera Álvarez (Understanding Society, University of Essex).

15.25 – 15.50: Preparing to recruit a new sample to Understanding Society, Hannah Carpenter (Kantar Public).

15.50 – 16.15: Video calling as an alternative mode to CAPI for longitudinal surveys during the pandemic, Kirsty Cole (NatCen Social Research).

16.15 – 16.30: Q&A
