We are delighted to welcome back Professor Alison Booth, Professor of Economics at the Australian National University, who returns to give our 30th anniversary seminar over lunch on Wednesday 9th October. The title of her paper is Gender Differences in Tournament Performance Over Time: Can Women Catch-Up with Men?
Alison Booth is Professor of Economics at the Australian National University, and Research Fellow of the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR), London, the IZA Bonn, and the Institute for Employment Research (IAB), Nürnberg. She is an ANU Public Policy Fellow and a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences in Australia. She obtained her PhD from the London School of Economics in 1984 and joined ISER as a professor alongside Professor Stephen Jenkins and Professor John Ermisch in 1994.
Alison was President of the European Association of Labour Economists 2006-2008, and became an Honorary Lifetime Member in 2008. She was head of the ANU’s Economics Program RSSS 2008-2009, and was Editor-in-chief of Labour Economics from 1999-2004.
Alison works on labour market and behavioural economics topics. Her book, The Economics of the Trade Union, Cambridge University Press (reprinted 2002) was a Princeton University Economics Book of the Year in 1996. She has held many research grants, including from the Australian Research Council, the Leverhulme Trust, the Nuffield Foundation, and the Economic and Social Research Council. Currently she is Associate Editor of the Palgrave Dictionary, and is on editorial boards of the Economic Record, the Industrial and Labor Relations Review, and Labour Economics.
