Professor Nick Buck, Director of ISER, has welcomed the exciting news of the recognition of two key figures in ISER’s history in this year’s Queen’s Birthday Honours.

Within ISER he was responsible for establishing the Understanding Society Policy Unit. The Policy Unit assists with bespoke analysis of Understanding Society data to enable better policy making and recommendation to government departments and the third sector.
Professor Jonathan Gershuny, Professor of Sociology at the University of Oxford and Director of the Centre for Time Use Research, was awarded a CBE for services to Social Science and Sociology. J was Director of ISER from 1993 to 2005 and had a huge impact in creating the institution as we now know it and in ensuring its success.
Congratulations to both of them. The awards are very well deserved.”
Professor Shamit Saggar said “ISER is an undisputed go-to partner for government, commerce and the voluntary sector to gain access to important findings about our society and how it operates. Therefore, it has been a great pleasure to support ISER to ensure that better data is also accompanied by better understanding among policymakers. When we do this successfully, we can genuinely claim to inform evidence-based public policy”.
