New research by Professor Mike Brewer and Dr Paola De Agostini has informed the annual report on the National Minimum Wage, produced by the Low Pay Commission. The research was part of a Low Pay Commission-funded study The National Minimum Wage and its interaction with the tax and benefit system: a focus on Universal Credit.
The Low Pay Commission’s annual report to government on the National Minimum Wage (NMW) and its recommendations for NMW rates from October 2014 has suggested the NMW should rise to £6.94 and an overhaul of the Commission’s role to support the lifting of low salaries.
The report also uses several specifically commissioned pieces of research using ISER’s major study of UK households, Understanding Society and its predecessor, BHPS, and references other ISER studies for the Low Pay Commission by Professor Mark Taylor, Dr Mark Bryan and Dr Andrea Salvatori. These include The Impact of the National Minimum Wage on Earnings, Employment and Hours through The Recession (2012) and The Impact of the National Minimum Wage on Employment Retention, Hours and Job Re-entry (2013).
