ISER joins review of HM Treasury analysis

ISER’s Professor of Economics, Mike Brewer, has been invited to join a panel of experts which is undertaking a review of analysis in HM Treasury. The review is being run by the Government Office of Science, and is part of a series of reviews into how central government departments use science and analysis.

The review’s objectives are:

  1. to review how HM Treasury uses evidence and analysis in strategy,
    policy and delivery decision making.
  2. to provide independent assurance to the Permanent Secretary that the
systems underpinning the evidence base are fit for purpose.
  3. Where necessary, to recommend actions to support continuous
improvement, further enhancing analytical capacity and capability.

The review began in July 2012 and is expected to publish its findings in early 2013
