The deadline for the submission of abstracts for the BHPS/Understanding Society Conference is March 15.
The conference will showcase early findings from Understanding Society, and other longitudinal studies such as the well-established “British Household Panel Survey (BHPS)”:, now part of Understanding Society.
The event, which takes place from Thursday, June 30 to Friday, July 1 2011, is being held at the University of Essex, home to the Institute for Social and Economic Research (ISER) where both Understanding Society and the BHPS are based.
Organisers are interested to receive submissions for both methodological as well as substantive research and anyone who is interested in submitting an abstract should do so by the deadline of March 15th.
This year the Understanding Society/BHPS Conference will replace the popular BHPS conference which has been run on a biennial basis by ISER for a number of years.
The conference will feature:
- a keynote address by Dr. Frank Stafford of the University of Michigan and the Panel Survey of Income Dynamics; sessions reporting research from Understanding Society
- a session of invited papers sponsored by the National Centre for Research Methods
- a parallel programme of presentations
- a conference dinner
There are also plans to hold an informal practical workshop on using Understanding Society data on Saturday, July 2 from 9.30am to 1.00pm which will include a short introduction to the data structure and the opportunity for participants to access and inspect the data files.
