New Professor for ISER

Professor Yvonne Kelly ISER is delighted to announce that Yvonne Kelly has joined its research team as Professor of Lifecourse Epidemiology.

Yvonne was formerly based at University College London (UCL) where she was a Senior Lecturer in Epidemiology and Public Health. Her main research interests lie in understanding the causes and consequences of health inequalities.

Yvonne is the Principal Investigator on two projects within the ESRC International Centre for Lifecourse Studies in Society and Health (ICLS). She is currently investigating the way in which economic, psychosocial and biological factors influence early childhood health and development using data from the UK Millennium Cohort Study (MCS). She is examining how aspects of parental investment and family environment combine to influence child health and well being. She also leads (as PI) an ESRC-NIH funded project on a UK-US comparison of ethnic inequalities in child health and development. Another major research interest is on the links between aspects of early life environment such as alcohol consumption during pregnancy, birthweight and infant feeding and later health and development, a project that has generated widespread media interest in recent months.

Yvonne said:

“I’m very excited about joining ISER with its world class reputation for multidisciplinary research coupled with a vibrant atmosphere. I have already enjoyed excellent working relationships with a number of people at ISER and Essex and I am looking forward to building further on these. I hope to make a valuable contribution with a programme of work located at the interface between the social sciences and biomedicine.”
