Five ISER researchers were involved in a recent high-level conference organised by the Institute for the Study of Labour and the OECD which looked at how the economic crisis is affecting personal incomes and the household income distribution.
The workshop, Economic crisis, rising unemployment and policy responses: What does it mean for income distribution? was held in Paris and was aimed at helping to clarify the strengths and weaknesses of the different approaches and techniques available to assess how changes in macro variables “feed through” to the economic resources of individual households.
One of the keynote talks, Economic downturn and stress testing European welfare systems was presented by members of the EUROMOD team at ISER including Holly Sutherland, Francesco Figari and Andrea Salvatori. Holly was also on the conference panel.
ISER’s Richard Berthoud gave a presentation at the workshop on his recent recession research, Patterns of non-employment and disadvantage in a recession and Francesco D’Amuri presented his research on The impact of the current crisis on the Italian labour market
Commenting on the workshop, Holly Sutherland, who leads the EUROMOD team at ISER, said:
“In order to design appropriate policy responses it is becoming increasingly important to understand how the severe global economic downturn is affecting the distribution of resources at the individual and household levels. It was excellent to be able to demonstrate how EUROMOD can be used to address this issue and to showcase some of ISER’s important work in this area as well as share experiences and information with leading researchers in this field from around the world.”
