I am a PhD student at ISER, part of the Soc-B Centre for Doctoral Training.
During my first year in the Soc-B CDT programme, I received interdisciplinary training, developing new skills in data analysis and statistics, while also gaining insights into sociology, epigenetics, and psychology. I am passionate about exploring the connection between social dynamics and the gut microbiome, and how this relationship shapes overall health. My PhD research uses metagenomics to investigate how socioeconomic factors influence the gut microbiome, and how these changes may affect mental health and inflammatory biomarkers.
Supervision:
- Professor Meena Kumari, ISER
- Dr Patrick Varga-Weisz, Department of Life Sciences
- Dr Rick O’Gorman, Department of Psychology
Research interests: Gut microbiota, social determinants of health, socioeconomics, mental health, metagenomics, metabolomics, metatranscriptomics, inflammation
