Hasnat is a statistical geneticist and genetic epidemiologist who works with genetic and epigenetic data from Understanding Society. In his role, he collaborates with colleagues on data management, evaluates applications from other researchers seeking access, provides support to data users, and conducts his own research using the data.
He obtained his PhD in human genetics, during which his research focused on the relationship between common genetic variation in the Klotho gene — often referred to as an “anti-ageing” gene — and various biological and health factors associated with ageing. Following his PhD, his research focus shifted to obesity genetics before taking up his role at ISER.
