Angelina Nazarova is an applied economist specialising in applied microeconomics, with a focus on vulnerable populations, socio-economic inequalities, and the determinants of health and well-being across the life course. She is currently a Senior Research Officer at the Institute for Social and Economic Research (ISER) at the University of Essex and a researcher with the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration (ARC) East of England, within the Prevention and Early Detection in Health and Social Care theme.
Her research examines how social, economic, and institutional factors shape outcomes for children, families, and disadvantaged groups. Her recent work covers topics including gender inequalities and parenting, maternal and child health, educational transitions, and local food environments. She uses quantitative methods and linked administrative and survey data to generate evidence for academic audiences and inform policy.
Alongside her UK-focused research, Angelina has a broader interest in development economics and inequalities in vulnerable societies, including research experience in Central Asia. She has previously worked on projects related to poverty, human development, and social outcomes in low- and middle-income country contexts.
Angelina holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Bologna, an MSc in Economics from the University of Konstanz, and a BSc in Economics with Finance from the University of Westminster.
She has experience in teaching and research across academic and policy institutions, including the Center for Economic Research in Uzbekistan and the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) in Washington, DC.
Angelina is affiliated with the European Economic Association, Società Italiana di Econometria, and the Royal Economic Society.
