Wage returns to residential mobility in SpainISER Internal Seminars

We examine wage returns to geographic mobility in Spain, a country that traditionally experienced limited mobility despite substantial regional variation on unemployment and wages. We find that wage returns are modest on average -around 2% -however, there is substantial heterogeneity with some groups experiencing losses. Wage gains associated with return migration are substantially larger, around 5.6% with most returners benefiting. We also find that wage returns increase slightly over time both for movers and for return migrants.
