Universal pre-school childcare, maternal employment and child outcomes: what can we learn from other countries?Conferences

p(subheading). Universal pre-school childcare provision is an area of policy interest both here in the UK and abroad. An international conference, organised by The ESRC Research Centre for Micro-social Change “MISOC”:https://www.iser.essex.ac.uk/misoc, and the “Institute of Fiscal Studies,”:http://www.ifs.org.uk/ and aimed at policy makers, think tanks, academics and the Third Sector, will examine the approaches to universal childcare provision and funding, and the impact on maternal employment in OECD countries.

MISOC and IFS have a joint project aiming to estimate the impact of free entitlement for three and four year olds on maternal employment and child development and the conference will focus on the policy implications for pre-school childcare and early years education.

The conference will be on Wednesday 8 May at “The British Academy”:http://www.britac.ac.uk/ in London and is funded by the “Economic and Social Research Council.”:http://www.esrc.ac.uk/
