ISER Internal Seminar: Social Housing, Employment, and Well-beingISER Internal Seminars

The effect of social housing on social outcomes, in particular employment, is one of the most politically contentious subjects in UK housing policy. Many argue against social housing on the basis that it acts as a disincentive to employment, while others point out that the stability and lower rents support people into work. This paper uses regression analysis on the BHPS and Understanding Society Panel Datasets to track the social outcomes (employment status, hours worked, and subjective well-being) of those private renters who were awarded a social home.
