Women in Social Science Conference: Professor Sonia Bhalotra on the challenges women have faced over the past 50 years

Women in Social Science, on 3 April 2019 from 1.30pm to 5pm at City, University of London, brings together academics from across the social sciences to consider the challenges women have faced over the past five decades and to celebrate their achievements. Convened by Academy of Social Sciences/Campaign for Social Science and NatCen, speakers include both ‘senior’ women whose careers span much of this period and ‘early career’ academics.

Exploring the challenges in their own discipline, each speaker will consider the changes feminism has brought about, key achievements, and what remains to be done. Senior speakers will focus on past challenges and achievements whilst early career speakers will address the current situation, reflecting on the ways they have benefited from women who came before them.

A general discussion will draw on wider experiences to address what can be done in response to challenges facing women in the Academy today.
