ESRC Multi-disciplinary Health & Biomarkers Conference

Associated with a variety of social and economic outcomes and of particular pertinence given the immediate issues associated with ageing and wellbeing, health is increasingly being explored across a range of disciplines, notably sociology and economics. The recent collection of biomarkers in Understanding Society, a longitudinal survey following 40,000 UK households, represents a unique opportunity to closely examine the pathways interlinking biology and health outcomes and further our understanding of how both biology and social context shape individual behaviours.

Keynote Speakers:

Day 1. Professor John Hobcraft (University of York)

Day 2. Professor Meena Kumari (University of Essex)

Health academics and PhD students from all disciplines are invited to submit abstracts for consideration. The two day conference will be arranged thematically to maximise interdisciplinary dialogue. Possible research themes include ageing and health, the interaction between biology and the environment and addressing social disparities in health.

The best student paper drawn from the papers presented will be awarded the best PhD Paper Award.

Submission Deadline: 15th March, 2015.

Notification of Acceptance: 31st March, 2015.

Conference Dates: 24th & 25th of June, 2015

Venue: University of Essex.

Registration: There are no registration fees but delegates must register by the 30th of April as we have limited spaces.

Lunch and refreshments will be provided on both days of the conference. In addition we will be hosting a subsidised dinner at Wivenhoe House on the evening of the 24th. Due to generous funding from the ESRC we are able to provide accommodation and travel bursaries to a number of students and early career researchers with accepted abstracts. If you wish to be considered for a bursary please indicate so when submitting the abstract. Abstracts along with names and affiliation of authors should be emailed to iserconf@essex.ac.uk
