Is the Church of England really a generation away from extinction?

Controversial comments by the former Archbishop of Canterbury George Carey on the Church’s failure to attract young people to attend are reflected in new ISER analysis commissioned by the Church of England. Professor David Voas who leads the research to investigate factors behind growth has been explaining the dropping attendance patterns to BBC Radio 4.

He doubts the Church is really a generation away from extinction but believes numbers could halve as there’s no good evidence that people become more religious with age.
