Summary:

Homogamy is a topic that has deserved much atenttion both in economics and sociology. However, most of the research carried up-to-date has been mainly focused in studying its in the process of mating and partners selection. Therefore, little is known about how homogamy can influence other couple and family outcomes once the couple is settled. The aim of this thesis is to study how homogamy affects the day-to-date life of the family. It will do so by studying how several common family outcomes are influenced by homogamy considering also that similarity in the couple is a process itself reinforced by the length of the relationship. So far, the first paper have looked at the role of homogamy in explaining the divsion of domestic housework within the couple. This paper uses time-use data drawn form the Home OnLine Dataset, a short panel of three waves covering a representative sample of UK population (1998-2001)
