New MiSoC policy fellowship scheme welcomes researcher from the Government’s Race Disparity Unit

We are delighted to welcome Vasileios Antonopoulos, an Economic Advisor in the Race Disparity Unit, as the first Policy Fellow with our ESRC Research Centre on Micro-Social Change (MiSoC). MiSoC is one of the ESRC’s longest-running investments and is renowned for producing policy-relevant research.

Our new Polcy Fellow scheme provides academic mentoring and research assistance support to researchers outside of academia looking to address a short-term policy issue. It also provides access to a wide-range of experts and resources at the Institute of Social and Economic Research and our host institution, the University of Essex.

Working alongside Professor Renee Luthra, Vasileios will research a number of action points detailed in Inclusive Britain, the government’s response to the Commission on Race and Ethnic Disparities, with research support from MiSoC Research Assistant Jonas Kaufman.

This first fellowship will be expected to complete towards the end of 2022, with a report to the Minister for Equalities.

MiSoC is partnering with the UK Government’s Open Innovation Team to deliver the scheme and we hope to recruit further Policy Fellows into the team in the coming months. In the pilot phase (2022) the scheme is aimed at government departments. In the long-term we intend to expand to other organisations, such as thinktanks and the third sector.

If you would like to find out more about the scheme and potential opportunities for joining our team on a short-term fellowship please do get in touch.
