New evidence from three new research studies by Dr Birgitta Rabe from the Institute for Social and Economic Research at the University of Essex, Luke Sibieta from the Institute for Fiscal Studies and Professor Simon Burgess from the Centre for Market and Public Organisation at University of Bristol, was presented to an audience of policy makers, education professionals and researchers at the Department for Business, Skills and Innovation on 17 March, followed by a lively and insightful panel discussion with leading thinkers on educational policy and practice. The panellists included

  • Andrew Wye, Funding Policy Unit, Department for Education;

  • Malcolm Trobe, Deputy General Secretary, Association of School and College Leaders

  • Carole Willis, Chief Executive, National Foundation for Educational Research
