My shortish title

Some rusty thing

This is the ‘Content’ field, for the main body of the article of this example post. Line breaks make new paragraphs.

Links are done with the anchor in square brackets followed by the URL in regular brackets, like this: [Apple](https://www.apple.com) i.e. Apple

Links to content on this site don’t need the full URL, just the path like /misoc e.g. [EUROMOD](/euromod) i.e. EUROMOD – if in doubt, just copy and paste from the address bar.

Headings

Headings within the document are prefixed with hash characters. Normal headings should use 2 hashes, then further subheadings 3 and then 4 e.g.

Subsection – heading 2

Lorem ipsum – ##Subsection - heading 2

Sub-subsection – heading 3

Lorem ipsum – ###Subsection - heading 3

Sub-sub-section – heading 4

Lorem ipsum – ####Subsection - heading 4

Next subsection – back up to heading 2

Lorem ipsum – ##Subsection - heading 2

Divider

You can put a horizontal rule in with three dashes ---

Text formatting

You can make a **strong statement** strong statement with double asterisks.

And add *some emphasis* some emphasis with single asterisk.

Lists

Unordered lists are done with single asterisk at the beginning of the line, like this:

* item one
* item two
* item [three](/)
  • item one
  • item two
  • item three

Ordered lists are just numbers:

  1. item one
  2. item two
  3. item three

Quotes

To make a quotation, use chevrons like this and make sure you wrap it in double quotes:

> "And in the end the love you take, is equal to the love you make"
> **-- Paul McCartney**

“And in the end the love you take, is equal to the love you make”
– Paul McCartney

Quotes can span many lines:

John Doe

Styles

Use curly braces then the classname on a separate line to add a CSS class

{: .lead}
A leading paragraph looks like this.

{: .call-to-action}
Don't forget to [add a call to action](http://www.glastonburyfestivals.co.uk) where appropriate.

Crediting photos

Use Flickr’s Creative Commons search as your first port of call for images.

Always credit an image, with a URL. For Flickr images, use the username for the ‘Image Credit’ field and then only include the ID of the photo in the URL, for example, out of a massive Flickr URL like this:

https://www.flickr.com/photos/timparkinson/88653925/in/photolist-8QnHX-51Jtsr-51JGUM-8qQhyQ-24MJQf-2YFvG-7Gb7t2-ccK7-6Zetgi-21zCPX-5BvDj7-6Bmk2x-YLqCd-915FdJ-6BiUFR-55HwPg-6BqKzo-eZL5W6-dGNv9Z-f5ZqPx-8fmW88-f3LHZd-6BmCUc-EUQN6-nVe5Ga-4ZXwDJ-55MGBA-6BqGc5-6Bmkop-6BqzGG-ccGH-51zc96-6BqwK1-ogW7-8eruta-21zGN4-5dUjHH-f5ZkgF-5Brnyc-8eh3Sg-51g3FS-Y5JrN-Y1hPa-XZRXB-Y5H3S-6Zit6h-Y1joD-6Zet8R-Y1gy4-ccJP

The ‘Image credit’ field should be timparkinson and the ‘Image credit URL’ field should be https://www.flickr.com/photos/timparkinson/88653925

Slug

The ‘slug’ field is used in combination with the publication date to make the URL of the news item.

Usually it’s fine to let it be automatically generated, this is done when you save a news item for the first time. It uses the ‘title’ field, converting it to lower case and converting space and punctuation characters into dashes.

If your ‘title’ has punctuation in, or is especially long, then you should manually enter a ‘slug’, for example if your ‘title’ was ‘Jamie’s Hot Dinners’ your slug will automatically be created as jamie-s-hot-dinners, in which case it would be better to enter your own slug e.g. jamies-hot-dinners

Tips

Keep the ‘title’ field short as this will work better on index pages and also keep the ‘slug’ manageable.
