EUROMODTax-benefit microsimulation model for the European Union
EUROMODupdate
A major EUROMOD development project is being supported by DG-EMPL with the key objective to improve and extend EUROMOD’s usefulness as a tool for policy-relevant research and policy monitoring. This involves
- updating EUROMOD to cover recent policy systems;
- enlarging EUROMOD from 19 countries to cover all 27 Member States
- upgrading EUROMOD to operate using EU-SILC (European Union Statistics on Income and Living Conditions) data as the input database;
- re-building the “old” EU-15 using the most recent version of EUROMOD software; and
- developing methods and processes that facilitate the efficient updating of EUROMOD in the future.
In doing so the project is encouraging the widest use of EUROMOD in research and policy analysis at the national and international levels.
The project began in February 2009 and will last 3 years. The aim is to upgrade or newly construct in EUROMOD a selection of 9 or 10 countries each year, and to then update them in subsequent year(s).
The countries developed in year 1 were Belgium, Czech Republic, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Lithuania, Spain and the UK.
The countries developed in year 2 were Cyprus, Ireland, Latvia, The Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia and Sweden.
The countries being developed in year 3 are Austria, Bulgaria, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Luxembourg, Malta and Romania.
The work is being carried out by the EUROMOD core developer team, based mainly in ISER, in collaboration with a group of national teams.
A project Steering Group has been established, under the chairmanship of Sir Tony Atkinson.
Project outputs are planned to include:
- New releases of EUROMOD itself. See how to access EUROMOD.
- Country Reports for the new country components. These will be made available here as they are completed.
- Feasibility Studies for Bulgaria, Romania and Malta
- Updated and expanded statistics on income distribution and re-distribution are available here
- Cross-country validation and technical reports
