British Household Panel SurveyBHPS
User Group
The ULSC is aware that experience in the analysis of complex and longitudinal data such as the BHPS is not widespread in Britain. In order to ensure that the BHPS data are widely and well used by the social science community, the Institute participates in a number of training and participatory activities.
As part of its effort to ensure the most effective and the widest use of the BHPS data, the Centre established a BHPS User Group.
Membership
All users – and potential users – of BHPS data are urged to become members of the User Group. The Data Archive passes the names of all registered users of BHPS data to the ULSC, who adds them to the User Group but you are invited to join the User Group independently.
Aims and Benefits
- To provide a forum for the exchange of ideas, problems and solutions for data users.
- To act as a liaison mechanism for the ULSC and the users of its data.
- To allow user feedback to the ULSC.
As the BHPS is a longitudinal panel study, regular contact with users will be of particular value to the ULSC as it continues to collect data in the future. Users should also benefit from the opportunity to put their ideas for future data collection to the ULSC and to become aware of the development of the survey during its lifetime.
Activities
The User Group is administered, in the first instance, by the ULSC. The Data Archive continues to deal with all issues relating to data access, and works closely with the User Group in all of its activities. There is already a wide body of expertise within the ULSC and ISER and, through the User Group, it is anticipated that a cross-flow of ideas and knowledge will take place which will enrich the social science community as a whole.
